Vincent Ramos: Notice of Demolition or The Horror-Vacui Heavy Haunts House Band for The Haunted House

June 13 – July 18, 2026

Opening reception: June 13, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

We are pleased to present Vincent Ramos: Notice of Demolition or The Horror Vacui Heavy Haunts House Band for the Haunted House, an exhibition of new and recent work in the rich and storied tradition of California collage and assemblage by this veteran Los Angeles artist. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with Gerard Brane: The Absence of Direction. Both shows open on Saturday, June 13 with an artists’ reception between 2-5 pm and continues through July 18 at as-is.

The exhibition, the artist explains, “consists of examples from six years of work, continuing my ongoing investigation into various facets of Mexican American/Chicano culture as it relates to the American experience. I utilize found objects and found images to create a series of non-linear narratives that investigate notions of memory, loss, trauma, resilience, and a certain undeniable presence (and at times very deliberate absence and/or erasure) within the larger culture.”

“By juxtaposing material that is from the relatively recent past to now, be it from pop culture or politics or whatever, I seek to collapse time in on itself to create some weird type of mutated and / or hybrid space of cross-cultural inquiry; to bring the voices of the past back into the present; to simultaneously make sense of our current chaotic condition, using the brown image and narrative with its rich and complex history; and to subsequently add to this fraught space in such a way as to disrupt the much larger dominant narrative and ultimately to haunt the age-old traditions of Americana to their hollow core.”
